Imagine a doctor prescribing a video game to treat ADHD. Or imagine an expanding capsule used to treat obesity; as it expands in the patient's digestive tract, they feel full and eat less. Eric Elenko gives us a view into technologies that are transforming the development of drugs, medical devices and health technologies. In this TEDxBeaconStreet talk he focuses on key drivers for radical innovation in medicine that include therapies that target the entire physiological system, and not just a component of the symptom.
Elenko holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego where his work focused on molecular pharmacology and cell biology. Today he is a Partner at PureTech Ventures where he starts life science focused companies for which he acts as an interim member of the management team.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
