In this installment of our "Smyth Busters" series, Brownells Gun Techs Steve Ostrem and Caleb Savant pull out their Acme Myth Exploding Kit today and tackle a classic: A rear AR-15 sight from one manufacturer won't "work" with a front sight from another. NO, say the guys, that's baloney! AR-15 rear sights are all manufactured to the same height and will interchange just fine. If the rear sight you have now works with your front sight, the replacement will, too. One of the things that makes the AR-15 such a wonderfully versatile, customizable rifle is the easy interchangeability of parts. One caution: the guys' rule of thumb applies to CURRENT production AR-15s. Old rifles and Retro Rifle™ reproductions will have some variations in sight height - but that's a subject for a future video. Still got questions? Do you know of an exception to this Rear Sight Rule? Either way, leave us a comment below.
