STORYLINE:
Small lines formed outside some Cypriot banks shortly after opening time on Friday, but most had dispersed by mid-morning with residents remaining concerned but hopeful.
An orderly queue formed outside a branch of Laiki bank, a day after the re-opening of Cyprus banks after over a week of being shut.
A security guard was stationed at the door of the branch but customers waited calmly for their turn with no signs of the panic some had expected.
Cash machines were operating across the island although restrictions will remain in place on financial transactions to prevent people from draining their accounts.
Despite a degree of normality returning to the stricken island's banking sector the future remains a point of concern for Greek Cypriots.
Pampos Physlaktis, a retired merchant, said he worries for his childrens' future.
"The problem is the future. That's what I'm worried about. My children, if they can survive the future that will be good," he said.
Others still have faith in the government believing things will eventually turnaround.
Capital controls have been imposed on transactions meaning that people can only withdraw up to 300 euros a day in cash, and are limited in how much money they can transfer from their accounts.
People leaving the country can only take a maximum a thousand euros in cash with them, and credit card payments abroad are also limited.
