This video articulates the gist of the following: Etizolam is a thienodiazepine which is chemically related to a class of substances known as benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines produce central nervous system (CNS) depression and are commonly used to treat insomnia and anxiety. Etizolam is a thienodiazepine derivative which is a benzodiazepine analog. The etizolam molecule differs from a benzodiazepine in that the benzene ring has been replaced by a thiophene ring and triazole ring has been fused, making it a thienotriazolodiazepine. Etizolam is currently a prescription medication in Japan, India and Italy. Etizolam is usually encountered in powder form or in tablet form. Etizolam has also been encountered spiked onto blotter paper. Etizolam is a benzodiazepine analogue from a class known as thienodiazepines and, like most substances similar to benzodiazepines, it has amnesic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative and muscle-relaxing properties. It’s most closely related to the benzodiazepine triazolam. Etizolam is mainly used for its anxiolytic and sedative properties, a medicine in Japan, Italy and India, but it’s also used or as an intoxicant. Etizolam does not currently have an accepted medical use in the United States. Etizolam is a thienodiazepine, which is a benzodiazepine analog. In other words, chemically, it is slightly different than a benzodiazepine like Xanax. Etizolam has sedative effects and is a muscle relaxant. It interacts with a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system that controls the firing of neurons.
