The Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed, officially the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin on the Moat (also Pokrovsky Cathedral, Cathedral of the Intercession on the Moat) is an Orthodox church on Red Square in Moscow.
It is one of the most significant monuments of ancient Russian architecture of the 16th century. The cathedral was built in 1555–1561 by order of Tsar Ivan the Terrible in honor of the conquest of the Kazan Kingdom.
