Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding immediate stoppage of the Polavaram project, known as the life of AP people.
Many times in the past, he has written letters to the Prime Minister saying that Odisha serves its interests. The latest letter, however, is creating a stir in political circles.
Last week, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar met. Venkayya asked the minister to stop the work. Javadekar responded by saying that there were no obstacles to the Polavara. He also explained that the permits are being renewed every year.
It was in this backdrop that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Modi and quoted the Minister of Tourism as the leader of the debate. Naveen Patnaik has said in the letter that he did not respond to the Union Environment Department asking him to stop it.
He also said that the Malkangiri district in Odisha is being hit by the Polavaram project. The letter stated that the adivasis and tribals live in the area and they will be severely affected by this project.
However, the AP government has already pledged to build the necessary granite for Mumpu in Malkangiri district.
