On the proposal of the Ministry of armaments in February 1943, the Krupp company began testing the installation of cutting a modified StuG III on the new chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H and J. the First car rolled off the Assembly line by December 1943, and January 1944 Krupp completely switched to their production, turning the release of Pz. IV. Only 1,108 vehicles were manufactured, and 31 more converted from existing tanks.
