When Sofia Overton was just 11 years old, she noticed her cousin struggling to keep her phone in her boot because her clothes didn’t have pockets. Sofia realized this was a common problem for kids and women, so she designed a solution, socks with built-in pockets. Sofia started by sewing two socks together, creating a pocket large enough to hold a phone securely.
At 13, Sofia took her idea to Shark Tank in Season 11. She pitched her company, Wise Pocket Products, and asked the Sharks for a $30,000 investment in exchange for 15% of her business. Her pitch was impressive, showing how her pocketed socks could keep items safe during activities like dancing or playing sports. She even brought friends along to help demonstrate the product.
Lori Greiner and Daymond John saw potential in Sofia’s idea and offered her $30,000 for one-third of her company. Sofia, showing strong negotiation skills, countered with $35,000 for 25% equity, which they accepted. This made Sofia one of the youngest entrepreneurs to strike a deal on the show.
After the episode aired, Wise Pocket Products saw a boost in sales. Sofia expanded her line to include leggings, but despite this success, the company eventually went out of business by 2023. The website is inactive, and their social media hasn’t been updated since 2020, likely due to challenges brought on by the pandemic.
We hope to see her back in business in the future.
