The 2:1 effect is one the most useful practice tools I have. The basic idea here is to try and construct an exercise which features a weakness of yours twice and only a strength once.

I started using this as a template to create exercises several years ago when I first started to get busy doing gigs and I had much less time to practice.
By following this simple 2:1 principle I was able to work on weaknesses in my playing twice as much in the same amount of time.
I usually find this works best if you make sure the "2" is something that you find difficult and the "1" is something you find easy. This way the difficult part of the exercises is isolated a little more and ends up receiving double the attention of the easy bit because the easy bit isn't demanding and distracting you.
If both parts of the exercise are difficult then it doesn't tend to work so well because both parts of the exercise need your focus and you don't get the benefit of isolating one of them.
