EDEX is fully supported by Egyptian Armed Forces and presents a brand new opportunity for exhibitors to showcase the latest technology, equipment and systems across land, sea, and air.
Russian Helicopters Holding, a subsidiary of Rostec, is showcasing a range of civil and military equipment including KA-52 and MI-35P attack helicopters for international customers at the 2nd Edition of Egypt’s Defense Expo commonly known as Edex 2021. The International Defense Industry Exhibition Edex 2021 is being held in Cairo from 29 November to 2nd December. More than 250 MI-24 and MI-35 attack helicopters are operated by nations across the African continent, with the MI-35P being the latest modernized variant of the famed 'Hind' on the export market.
The Mil Mi-24 is a large helicopter gunship, attack helicopter and low-capacity troop transport with room for eight passengers. It is produced by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant and has been operated since 1972 by the Soviet Air Force and its successors, along with 48 other nations.
It has maximum speed of 320 km, service ceiling of 4500 meter, flight range of 450 km, maximum payload capacity of 2400 kg and room for 8 troops. The MI-35P is distinguished by its high flight characteristics; in particular, it can be effectively used in conditions of high temperatures and high mountains. The design of the MI-35P provides low acoustic signature, increased combat survivability, and also reduces the labor intensity of maintenance. The upgraded gunship’s cockpit has the KNEI-24E-1 flight navigation system with multifunctional displays. The PKV-8-35 digital flight system increases the helicopter’s maneuverability and steadiness. The modernized gunship is also fitted with the updated PrVK-24-2 targeting system, which allows the use of 9M127-1 Ataka-VM anti-tank guided missiles and either L370 Vitebsk electronic countermeasure system or its export version President-S. The helicopter has also received a chin-mounted NPPU-23 turret with a twin-barrel GSh-23L auto cannon. Serial production has started as of August 2020 for an export customer.
This year, around 30,000 visitors and 400 exhibiting companies representing 42 countries are expected to take part in the second edition of Egypt's Defense Expo. Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production has confirmed that the international defence and military industries exhibition will see the presence of more than 40 defence and military production ministers as well military leaders from around the world. In 2018, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the first edition of Edex that witnessed the participation of 373 major defence companies from 41 countries. Edex 2018 saw the participation of the defence ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sudan, France, Greece, Cyprus, South Sudan, Cameroon, South Korea, and Somalia. Seven chiefs of staff and as many military production ministers also attended the 2018 exhibition. The high turnout of the first exhibition affirmed Egypt's "distinguished and balanced" international relations with all countries. With 920,000 military personnel, the largest military power in Africa and one of the leading forces worldwide, Egypt is the ideal setting for a large-scale defence & security event. In addition, Egypt has historically maintained continuous investment in the latest weaponry as a defence strategy and has strengthened national production lines across a range of military complexes. The event is held under the patronage of His Excellency, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, The President of The Arab Republic of Egypt and The Supreme Commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
