In Flowers in the Gutter: The True Story of the Edelweiss Pirates, Teenagers Who Resisted the Nazis (Dutton 2020), author K.R. Gaddy tells the story of young people in Cologne, Germany who resisted the Nazis by any means they could, including adopting unconventional forms of resistance like dressing differently, meeting when they weren't allowed to, singing banned songs, and creating new songs with anti-Nazi lyrics.
In this virtual program, Gaddy shares photographs of the Edelweiss Pirates, songs, and explore what it means to resist oppressive power through music.
