Working together to make the most of our beautiful landscape. Taking pride in and respecting the land that supports us. Striving and cooperating to connect people with the great outdoors, enabling them to learn from our geological heritage and ensuring the protection of our native habitats and wildlife. Cherishing our spectacular surroundings and the people who live here, we strive to build happy, healthy communities while developing regenerative tourism and boosting a greener economy for future generations. The Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark is a unique and vibrant place. Brimming with wildlife and saturated with cultural landmarks, it displays remnants of volcanic activity and evidence of vast ice sheets. It takes in the scenic areas of the Mourne Mountains, the Ring of Gullion, Strangford and Lecale, and the seas around our coast. With over 400 million years of geological history, our Geopark charts the closure of the Iapetus Ocean and the fusing of two parts into what we now know as the island of Ireland. Tales are told in the rocks of our land’s passage through tropical latitudes, the birth of the North Atlantic Ocean, and finally the shaping of landscape by ice during the last glaciation – a story unique to our Geopark. It is an extraordinary backdrop to remarkable people. Its distinctive geological heritage hosts a wonderful cultural heritage. From mountain adventures to ceili houses, arts and crafts to exquisite food and drinks perfected over millennia, we have so much to offer and so much to be proud of. Be a part of the Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark and lose yourself in all it has to offer.
