The joy of Christmas is the beauty of Jesus Christ manifest. Christmas is a time to remember Jesus' first coming and reflect upon how He revealed the Father as He walked the earth as a man.
And we joyfully look on toward His second coming, when all of the Father's plans (from the foundations of the world to that future day) will be fulfilled. Those plans are for family, for unity—and they have always been on the heart of God.
In John 17 we see Jesus as a man praying to the Father, echoing this very desire for unity as within the Trinity. His heart cry was that we would be with Him where He is. Two thousand years ago Jesus prayed for every believer, “I . . . pray . . . also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me" (vv. 20–21).
