Mobster Meyer Lansky used the back room of Ratner’s Dairy to hold private meetings with Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel and other mobsters. Because the back room of Ratner’s joined up with two other adjacent buildings it made it a very convenient spot from which to escape through the buildings various entrances and exits, should the need arise. It also functioned as an actual speakeasy during prohibition. It is from here that Lansky helped build his formidable gambling and bootlegging empire that spread across the country and even down to Cuba.
