Here is a great hand development/coordination exercise in the Afro-Cuban Jazz realm. The focus of this video is two 12/8 (6/8) bell patterns used for the African rhythms, Bembe and Nanigo. I commonly use these rhythms for Latin Jazz gigs as well as straight ahead jazz gigs as is demonstrated in the video.
The repeated rhythms build hand strength while playing on a not so forgiving surface, a cowbell.
These exercises and examples are all from my book Advanced Coordination for Drum Set and Hand Percussion. If you want to learn more about the book, go to www.rickdior.com and click on the "Ricks Books" page.
You can email me at rickdior@gmail.com if you want to order the book.
