Setting up for the Yamamoto Mission 75th anniversary ceremony at the wreckage of admiral Yamamoto's G4M1 Betty bomber on southern Bougainville. The Betty was shot down by a P-38 piloted by Rex Barber on April 18, 1943, killing all aboard. One American pilot, Ray Hine, was lost on the mission. Filmed by me on April 18, 2018.
This 75th Anniversary expedition by Pacific Wrecks to document the crash site was generously funded by Mr. Richard Portillo as an extension of the Portillo-funded commemorative Faulkner expedition to Bougainville in 2015 on which a gold tooth was discovered in the wreckage by Prof. Anderson Giles prompting further investigation about the possibility of the tooth belonging to Yamamoto.
