Europe is in trouble! Storm Eunice hits Britain, Netherlands and other.
Storm Eunice hit parts of Britain and northern Europe with dangerously strong winds. A devastating gust of wind at 200 km/h (122 mph) was recorded in England. Severe weather warnings were also issued in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The storm damaged buildings and severely disrupted travel by air, land and sea. The wind tore roofs off, scattered debris through the streets, and toppled trees and poles. About 1,000 people were evacuated from the O2 Arena in London, after part of the building’s roof was shredded by the wind. More than 200 flights were canceled at airports across Northern Europe. Train service in parts of Britain was also disrupted. As of early afternoon, more than 150,000 customers in Britain had lost electricity.
In the Netherlands, rail service was temporarily suspended, and professional soccer games were postponed. In Belgium, some schools closed early because of the storm.
