Crowds gathered in Moscow Manezhnaya Square on Thursday to mark the one year countdown to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Russia began a one year countdown to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics on Thursday, by switching on a clock in Moscow's Manezhnaya Square.
Crowds gathered, cheering and waving flags, to see the clock unveiled at 11 am local time, 7 am GMT, to begin a 365 day countdown to the start of the Winter Games on the 7th of February 2014.
Russian President Vladimir Putin scolded government officials on Wednesday over a two-year delay and huge cost overruns in the construction of the ski jump facility for the Sochi Olympics.
The 2014 Winter Games, which open one year from Thursday, are expected to cost 51 billion US dollars, making it the most expensive Olympics in history.
