The Henry Jackson Society was overjoyed to host the first event from the new Research Centre, the Centre for Cyber Security and Online Threats (CCSOT), on “Directions for the next National Cyber Security Strategy”.
Moderated by Society Research Fellow and Head of CCSOT Dr Danny Steed, the talk featured three exceptional figures at the forefront of the British national effort to create and maintain innovative and resilient digital communities. Mrs Erika Lewis provided clear insight into the Government attitude from her prominent position as the Director of Cyber Security and Digital Identity at the Department of Digital Culture, Media and Sport. Dr Hugo Rosemont, Security Policy Manager for Amazon Web Services, advocated for continued collaboration between the public and private sectors on intelligence sharing and technological advances, an area of success from the previous National Cyber Security Strategy.
Finally, Dr Joe Devanny of the War Studies Department at KCL gave a concise and thoughtful overview of why a Cyber Strategy should not be the remit of a single government department, but instead must be developed across sectors to guide research, develop resilience and educate the public as a national effort to boost Britain’s cyber security in an increasingly volatile digital environment.
