(21 Feb 2015) JULIEN MACDONALD SHOWS MODEL ARMY COLLECTION INSPIRED BY TOWER OF LONDON
Julien Macdonald showed an Autumn/Winter 2015 collection inspired by the Tower of London, Saturday, as London Fashion Week continued to banish the winter blues.
Famous for his red carpet-friendly designs, Macdonald showed a slinky range of embellished dresses in black, metallic and bold hues.
Elegant layering, fringing and sexy cut out detailing added depth to the looks.
"Obviously it's inspired by a trip I made to the Tower of London and in the Tower of London there's incredible jewels, there's diamonds, rubies, amethyst, gorgeous jewels covered in very rich, saturated colors," Macondald explained after the show.
"So the colors are used from hidden treasures and I translate them into a model army. When I went to the Tower of London, the Tower of London outside was covered in poppies. Poppies to celebrate war veterans, people who've died saving their lives for their country. So this is the Julien Macdonald model army of celebration and a very, modern woman."
It was a hit with "The Hills" reality star Whitney Port.
"I thought it was beautiful. I loved it," she said. "The jumper was my favorite."
A figure hugging, belted black catsuit with crochet-look cut out detailing proved a favorite with singer Ella Eyre.
"I thought it was amazing. I'm a big fan of Julien anyway. I think the catsuit was my favorite, I'm a sucker for a catsuit and so - it was stunning," Eyre said.
"I just, I think it's that sexy, colorful, but also everyone loves a bit of glam and I just think he does it so well and then the dresses fit amazingly so I'm a huge fan."
London Fashion Week runs until February 24th.
