On October 4, Poland's defence procurement agency announced the arrival of a new batch of K2 Black Panther main battle tanks. South Korean defence firm Hyundai Rotem is fulfilling its contract, signed in 2022, to supply these tanks to the Polish Armed Forces.
The latest delivery comprises six K2 main battle tanks, manufactured at Hyundai Rotem’s facility in South Korea. These tanks will be handed over to the Polish Land Forces in the coming days. With the addition of this new batch, the total number of K2 Black Panthers in service with the Polish Army will increase to 62.
In August 2022, Poland signed a contract with Hyundai Rotem worth nearly USD 3.4 billion for the delivery of 180 K2 main battle tanks. The deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
In July this year, Poland’s state-owned defence holding PGZ and Hyundai Rotem signed a consortium agreement to jointly produce K2PL tanks in Poland. A new contract for an additional batch of 180 K2PL tanks is expected to be signed by the end of 2024.
