STORYLINE:
Art enthusiasts and serious collectors from all over the world have their eyes turned to New York City as Sotheby's and Christie's preview their most important series of sales in five years.
Sotheby's previewed Friday their Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art collections. The highlight of the auction will be Claude Monet's stunning view of Venice, 'Le Grand Canal', from 1908. It is estimated that the gavel will fall anywhere from 12-16 (m) million US dollars.
The sale will also include works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Marino Marini, which together are representative of some of the key movements of early 20th Century Modernism.
An iconic group of works highlighted by Andy Warhol's 'Jackie Frieze', estimated at 8-10 (m) million US dollars, and featuring two works by Cy Twombly - 'Untitled (Rome)' and 'Untitled (New York City)', are estimated to bring 6-8 and 8-10 (m) million US dollars respectively.
Christie's evening sale of Impressionist and Modern art and Post-war and contemporary art takes place on November 1.
