Hey gang, here's a typically contentious and controversial subject: punishment. It's often called correcting or addressing. But whatever you call it, making a negative or dangerous behavior uncomfortable is often an absolutely necessary component of creating a well-behaved dog. In this clip I try to break down the differences between obedience work and the punishing of nasty stuff. Many people will try to tell you that you don't need to correct or punish, you can just train an alternative behavior, but that not true. Alternative behavior is just fancy talk for lifelong management. Of course that's a choice you can make, but I want to ensure that owners (and trainers) understand the difference, and the limitations.
