Built in limited numbers for only 2 years (just 818 stateside specification examples) the "Low Grille” coupes punctuated the model as one of designer, Paul Bracq's shining achievements. As the top of the line model of the time, the 280SE attracted those of style and well as those who appreciated solid mechanical reliability and outstanding build quality throughout. It carries a classic, yet modern chic as an icon of superb design.

In the 1990’s this 280 SE was serviced and cared for by well-known MB specialists, Hatch and Sons. This include a complete repaint, the remainder of the car was indeed superb given the low original mileage and rust free undercarriage.

In 2015, the 280 received the following restoration work, this time performed by another well-known MB fanatic here in New York. This included a complete repaint in DB350, interior restoration utilizing correct Mercedes Benz patterns and quality throughout. It also received a new headliner and full Wilton wool carpeting. The original Burl trim was refinished, as was the original Becker Europa radio. All exterior chrome has been re-plated and all rubber weather-stripping, lights and lenses renewed to achieve the high quality presence that it presents today.

Recent routine maintenance includes a complete mechanical service-tune up, new Bilstein suspension, new tires, brakes and an air-conditioning service.

Original spare tire, jack, and detailed book of historical documentation accompany the car.
The 280 SE Coupe is recognized for its intrinsic value as a superb classic. The rarity, high build quality and contemporary drivability of this model offers an optimum vintage automobile in today’s marketplace.
