일본 규슈에 6.2규모 지진
A strong earthquake with a preliminary maginitude of 6-point-4 has struck southern Japan.
According to Japan's Meteorological Agency, the quake hit Kumamoto, central Kyushu at nine twenty-six p.m. local time Thursday.
Japanese public broadcaster NHK says local police were told several people were trapped under collapsed houses near the epicenter of the quake.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for disaster emergency measures.
But authorities have not issued a tsunami warning and say there were no abnormalities at nearby nuclear power plants.
The Korean government is in touch with local officials to see if there were any Korean casulaties.
It's the first time such a massive quake was recorded in Japan since the earthquake in March 2011 that led to the Fukushima disaster.
