Come along with me as I take you on a tour across my beloved country Chad 🇹🇩. No country is perfect and Chad is no exception but it’s unfair to judge a book by its cover. For so long, whenever I search “CHAD”, I only see negative, w*r and poverty. The traditional media has stereotyped many of our African countries and I want to break this mole. This little vlog style documentary is my contribution to changing the narrative and writing our own stories. Platforms like YouTube allow as us small creators to make a difference at our little scale.
First, I take you to the Gold market. As Chad is one of the country naturally rich in gold, the metal became a very important element in the Chadians society especially for marriage traditions as it’s the central piece in every chadian girl’s dowry.
From there, we go to the cow’s market and meet uncle Azene, a livestock farmer as he shares the farmers problems and concerns during hard times and urges the government to intervene.
We then immediately go to Chad’s most famous market, known as souk kabir/ soug al kabir aka the grand market.
To correctly introduce you to the Chadian cuisine, we had to cook something together, and my dish of choice was one of my all time favorites, Kissar which our Chadian version of Ethiopia’s famous Injera made out of rice flour.
We finally go to enjoy the kissar we’ve made together with our homemade daraba (okra) and Moulokhiye (jutes) stews.
