[ Ссылка ] As the spending cuts slash deep, education systems in the EU are being confronted with enormous challenges.

Students are responding to the crisis in different ways; many are choosing to reverse centuries of emigration from the developing world to the developed and heading to where the money is, the emerging economies of the southern hemisphere or the more dynamic and open "Anglo-Saxon" markets.

In Spain where youth unemployment is over 50% this is leading to fears of a "brain drain".

In Greece the problem is one of resources. As people are no longer to afford private education they are falling back on a state system that is being cut to the bone.

While Portugal is losing its young people in a wave of emigration not seen since the impoverished 1960s, and they are going to former colonies like Angola or Brazil, whose economies are booming. It is a spectacular reversal of fortunes.
