After three police officers were hospitalised, when protesters threw a liquid at their faces, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she called the police commissioner, fearing for his staff’s safety.
But Ardern says she has been assured the police do not need military assistance, or emergency powers.
The occupation of Parliament's grounds and surrounding streets has entered its third week. Early on Tuesday morning, the 15th day of the occupation, police were attacked as they attempted to reduce the perimeter around Parliament. A man was arrested after a car drove at police officers from behind, although no officers were hit.
