Some Hastings students are using their creative thinking skills this summer. They're building model cars, designing iPhone apps and making pinball machines. All part of Camp Invention.
This is a national educational program. It's been held in Hastings the past four years. The camp encourages kids to solve problems and think outside the box.
This year's class has 36 inventors from 1st to 6th grade. Today some students were working on designing a machine that changes food they don't like into food they'd like to eat. One group of students designed an iPhone App that would convert spinach into cotton candy. That's just one of many creative ideas at camp.
"They are just thinking of something we could all use that could make our lives easier and they've come up with some great ideas like socks juice if you can't find your socks in the morning you drink this juice on the way to school and you grow socks."
"It's fun and you get to take apart stuff and anybody who likes creativity take apart and build stuff would like this program."
Camp invention started on Monday and ends on Friday. Tomorrow, Camp Invention students will be holding their inventors showcase to display and demonstrate their inventions to their family and friends.
