This Is Why The New 2023 VW Taos Is The BEST One Yet!
Right now, subcompact SUVs are getting loads of hype due to several factors, including practicality, style and affordability.
And while there are many options available in the market today, the 2023 Volkswagen Taos continues to be a favourite.
But how is the little VW beating the likes of Honda, Toyota and Mazda? Let’s find out now…
First of all, let’s talk about the prices!
Ok so, the 2023 VW Taos has three trim levels! That ultimately means you’ve got three options with different prices.
For the base S model, the prices start at about $25,450! That’s a pretty good price for a subcompact SUV with as many features as the Taos.
But if you have the budget, we’d suggest you go for the mid-level SE model! Because its starting price is around $30,220, only around $5000 higher than the base model. BUT! The fun part is that it has a lot more features than the base model.
So, even if you don’t get anything customized, this would work just fine!
Then comes the upper-level SEL model, which honestly is THE BEST!
But you’ll need a good budget for this one, as the starting price is around $35,830! And if you get some things customized, it could go as high as $40,000. But once again! It’s worth the price.
Next up, let’s talk about the engine and performance.
The new Taos is all you’d want in terms of performance because it sure got some amazing upgrades!
The new 2023 Taos is powered by VW’s popular 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine! This engine produces a reasonable 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Given that the powertrain is the same as the 2022 model, we can expect the acceleration to be the same too.
For example, the 2023 SEL model with a front-wheel drive system should get you to 60 mph in a fairly average 8.8 seconds. Whilst extra traction of the 4motion variant should be a whole 1.3 seconds faster, getting you from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds. Not bad huh?
For the front-wheel drive versions, the 2023 Taos features a pretty smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. Whereas the all-wheel-drive models have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which definitely contributes to the faster acceleration.
No! The features don’t end there!
Both the front and the all-drive Taos come with different rear suspensions! The front-wheel drive has a torsion-beam setup, while the all-wheel Taos features a more sophisticated multilink design.
And while we’re on the topic, let us tell you about the tire size options as well because that’s a factor that affects the performance a lot.
So all the trims come with the standard 17-inch wheels!
BUT!
You get to choose between 18 and 19-inch wheels, too, if needed!
All in all, it’s a great package in terms of performance. The engine is great with good power output, while the rest of the features also sit pretty well with each other.
The fuel economy is impressive!
This subcompact SUV is one great money saver as you'll be able to stretch your dollar when it comes to spending on fuel.
First, let’s talk about the front-drive Taos!
This one is rated at 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway!
However, the all-wheel-drive model is rated at 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
Compared to some other subcompact SUVs in the same price range, the Taos is definitely offering a great deal.
The interior is stylish, as we expected!
Even though we were expecting some major changes made to the interior this time, the Taos actually arrived with almost the same features as before.
From what we’ve seen so far, there might not be anything overtly special about the interior. But it's still pretty satisfying.
The material used in it gives a modern look to the insides of the car, but it’s almost the same as we see in almost all the other VW models.
The gauge cluster is fully digital and is placed in a perfect position on the dashboard.
Talking about the seats! They are covered in two-toned cloth! But you can also get leatherette and leather upholstery. In fact, there are other popular options for customization available too.
If you wish to make the Taos look more classy and fun at the same time, you can even get customizable ambient lighting.
Apart from that, you can also get the Taos equipped with anything, including a panoramic sunroof, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control.
The legroom is amazing, as the Taos boasts 37.9 inches of rear-seat legroom. This is only 0.8 inches less than the legroom offered to the front seats, by the way!
Cargo space is also pretty great, as the standard cargo space in all three trims is about 28 cubic feet with rear seats up!
However, if you fold the seats flat, the space increases to 66 cubic feet!
