David Munrow playing a Chinese flute with zither from 'Ancestral Voices' in a short clip from the BBC2 TV 5-part series 'Ancestral Voices', shown in 1976, shortly before Munrow took his own life. In a break from playing early and folk instruments, they show their skill on cornet, soprano saxophone and banjo.
Munrow makes a case for the missing link between folk music and pre-classical music. This is from the 'Zithers' episode.
In it Munrow propounded the theory that early music must have had the passion and vibrancy of folk music, played today by indigenous peoples. It was recorded at a time Munrow was manically overworked and the strain sometimes shows.
