Active Directory® Domain Services (AD DS) is essentially the umbrella term for on-prem Active Directory implementations. It refers to the Active Directory server and domain controller, and all of the Windows-based IT resources that are bound to it.
Yet, while the Microsoft solution has served well in on-prem Windows-based environments, IT organizations are seeing a shift towards cross-platform environments both on-prem and in the cloud. As a result, traditional umbrella solutions like AD DS are starting to struggle.
