Located in a rural area by the side of a national highway, the two-bedroom house is an attempt to make the building sustainable and cost effective and respond to the local climate and needs . The house is facing north with green area on all three sides and the old house attached at the back.
The central courtyard in the living room is the focal point of the design around which all the other activities are placed. A large amount of natural light coming through the skylight at the top of courtyard allows to go with earthen theme for walls and floors. The Air went left at the top helps in passive air ventilation and keeps the house cooler.
To reduce the carbon footprint, most of the roofing is done with locally available mangalore clay tiles.
