This data visualization and bar chart race ranks the cheapest of the average price of a bottle of beer in 58 countries using the World Beer Index (*), categorized by the following regions: Asia, North America, South America, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Africa, Oceania, and Europe. Shown here are the top 30 cheapest beers.

At just $1.68 per bottle, South Africa has the lowest average beer price thanks at least partially to cultural norms of buying in bulk.

The prices of a 330ml bottle of beer in supermarkets around the world were collated using online shops, focusing on well-known beer brands such as Corona and Heineken. When the price via an online shop couldn't be found, numbeo.com was used.

To gain an average price, hotels were called to find out the price of a beer from their lobby bar, and when this wasn’t available, menus from bars found online were used. Once all the data was collected, the average price in US dollars was calculated using xe.com.

Using the World Health Organisation statistics, the amount of alcohol consumption per capita and the percentage of annual beer consumption was found.
