Around 250 mostly sub-Saharan migrants tried to scale fences into Spain's northwest African enclave city of Melilla on Monday. Fifty made it onto European soil.

In a separate incident 13 migrants tried to reach the enclave in an inflatable boat but were intercepted by police. After jumping into the sea one of them drowned.
