Energy efficiency can be calculated by dividing the useful energy transferred in a process or machine by the total input energy.

Here's the formula:

Efficiency = (useful output energy / total input energy) x 100%

The same type of formula can be used with the quantity of power (how much energy is transferred per second):

Efficiency = (useful output power / total input power) x 100%
