Great combat, the thrill of playing as a rider of the apocalypse, epic boss fights, interesting level and enemy design, and a well-rounded narrative make Darksiders one of my beloved video game franchises. I have patiently waited over half a decade for the third part of this glorious series (through the shutdown of the studio that originally created it) and it was well worth it.
I am honestly surprised that this game is getting this much backlash from game 'critics', partly for not being like Darksiders 2 (even though Darksiders 2 got backlash for not being like the first Darksiders; so myopic), for its difficulty (most game journalists cannot play games to save their asses; get good, scrubs), and the technical issues (fair point; and in line with the lack of polish of the original two games).
While it is definitely hard and the dodge mechanic can be wonky, it gets significantly easier if you play longer than a couple of hours (something most game journalists refuse to do). The game is a wonderful combination of Zelda and Metroid, with some obvious Dark Souls influences. The post-apocalyptic setting with battling hordes of angels and demons continues to entertain and the main protagonist, Fury, while starting off mildly annoying, became my favorite rider of the apocalypse (along with Death) by the end of the game. Fury is badass and the game is an underrated gem, miles better than a majority of the AAA garbage that gets applauded by the gaming media for repeatedly peddling the same unimaginative crap year after year.
Played on a GTX 960M.
