The Home Office paid £15.2 million for a former prison site to house asylum seekers, triple its market value.
The site in Bexhill, East Sussex, had been purchased by previous owners for £6 million.
Civil servants did not conduct due diligence before the purchase, and it was later found that the site was contaminated with asbestos and unsuitable for living conditions.
The failed purchase was part of efforts to cut the £8 million daily cost of housing asylum seekers in hotels.
Peter Cardwell speaks with former Met Police Detective, Peter Bleksley and Political Theorist and Professor, Ralph Schoellhammer.
