일본 후쿠시마 오염수 방류 정식 인가
On View Point... today... we turn... to an issue... in neighboring Japan... that has been receiving... quite a bit of regional attention.
Relevant authorities... last month... formally... approved... a detailed wastewater discharge blueprint... for the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant... by the Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings.
Accordingly... this week... construction has begun... in preparation... for next year's wastewater release... despite... strong opposition... from the local fishing community... there.
For more... I have Shaune BURNIE... at Greenpeace East Asia... live on the line.
Welcome to the program.
1) I understand... the wastewater will first... be filtered... to rid off... some 60 radioactive ISOTOPES... with the exception of TRITIUM... which reportedly... cannot be eliminated... using existing technology.
First then... what are the potential risks... of TRITIUM... to marine life... and of course... to us?
2) It has been reported... that this drastic... debatable measure... was adopted... by Japan... as... the ONLY practical way... out... of a daunting dilemma... with regard... to storage... of accumulating wastewater... from the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Do you agree?
3) The IAEA... for its part... says... the upcoming discharge... meets international standards... and... quote "will not cause any harm to the environment."
What are your thoughts?
4) The fishing industry... around Japan's Fukushima coast... has shared... its disapproval... with the latest decision... by relevant authorities.
What... do you suppose... will be the broader implications... of Japan's release... of Fukushima wastewater... on the region's seafood industry?
5) Is there any action... that neighboring countries... including South Korea... could... take... amid... neighboring Japan's wastewater plans?
All right.
