This is the Fountaindale Road level crossing at Robertson, which is located on the branch line from Moss Vale to Unanderra. Next to the crossing is a small platform for patrons of Ranelagh House (now called The Robertson Hotel). Apart from occasional heritage trains, the line no longer sees any regular passenger services and the platform is falling into disrepair.
The crossing was passive until these signals were installed on December 6, 2001 and the equipment here is largely original. All four signals have unmarked bases and Alstom LED lights. It was around this time when Alstom (now United Group) lights became standard on all new installations in NSW, as right up until 2000 some crossings were still being equipped with Harmon or WCH lights.
Both gated signals have Western Cullen Hayes gate mechanisms and mechanical bells. The bell on the northern signal rings from start up until the gates have lowered, while the bell on the southern signal rings until the gates rise. The original southern bell was painted black and has since been replaced by a new model.
