Joe Delbosque is one of the largest organic farmer in the United States and he tells us he grows everything from melons, asparagus, almonds, and cherries. His farm is located 20 miles south of Los Banos in a small city called Firebaugh. Mr. Delbosque also tells us that he is the President of his company and the Vice President is his wife Maria Gloria Delbosque he also tells us his daughter works with him along with their son in law.
Mr. Delbosque says he started his farm in 1985 however his father was a melon grower for a local company across the tracks called V H Azhderian. Hisfather was a foreman and grew the melons since the 50's up until he retired in1987.
A few years back President Barac Obama, Governor Jerry Brown, Congressman Joe Costa, Senator Boxer and Senator Dian Fienstein visited with Mr. Delbosque. Mr. Delbosque says that he feels they didn't really give the farmers any relief as far as water goes and Joe says that he has been a water advocate for many years at least since 2009 when the "March For Water" occurred, the March for Water was an effort to raise awareness of the fact that the Central Valley was in a very serious water drout. The march began in Mendota with about 2,000 people and it ended up at the San Luis Reservoir with about 10,000 people.
Joe Delbosque says that the biggest problem they face is the water shortage and he says we need water storage and conveyance solutions so that when it rains in the winter up north we can capture that water and bring it to us when we need it.
