TMJ Syndrome or TMJ Dysfunction can be a stand alone problem or related to many other issues. Understanding the TMJ's relationship in function to activities like eating, sitting at a desk, vision and eye strain, being in a stressed state too often, speech impediments, anxiety as well as teeth, bite and other issues that can effect the jaw alignment opening and closing. This Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction/Disorder course is specifically created for manual therapists. You will learn and discover how to assess, treat and give functional movement education to your clients suffering from symptoms of pain, grinding, clicking of the jaw, neck and head resulting from poor posture, jaw or bite alignment, dental considerations, stress, trauma and injury.
Understanding the holistic connections and relationship of the jaw to other parts of the body is an important factor in improving TMJ function. You will learn both intraoral and extra oral work, Craniosacral, Feldenkrais and Cupping modalities. These will be taught along with manual Trigger Point and massage techniques for the key muscles of mastication, jaw opening and closing as well as auxiliary neck and head musculature that are commonly implicated in TMJ disorders. Joint mobilizations of TMJ are included along with the skeletal anatomy required to provide a comprehensive treatment for the TMJ.
