Struggling to find an end to its ‘worst economic crisis’, Pakistan witnessed low-key celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr. The pomp of the festival faded away due to soaring inflation leading to skyrocketing prices of the commodities. According to Pakistani Newspaper Dawn, on average, buyers were 50 per cent less than last year. Usually bustling markets and shopping centres targeting middle and lower-middle classes have reported fewer customers. However, some people thronged markets for shopping despite the soaring prices. PM Shehbaz Sharif prayed for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan while offering Eidul Fitr prayers at a Lahore mosque. Eid-al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, is one of the two major religious festivals of Islam. Meanwhile, Inflation clocked in at 35% in March fuelled by, a rollback in subsidies, and the imposition of higher tariffs. It was done to secure a bailout package of $1.1 billion from the International Monetary Fund.
