The Spectacle Reef Lighthouse sits 17 miles from the mainland in the Straits of Mackinac. Built in 1869, it became a model for lighthouses constructed on the Great Lakes.
A group of volunteers bought the lighthouse and are dedicated to preserving and restoring it.
Their goal is to make the Spectacle Reef Light an educational center where people can learn about the history of Great Lakes lighthouses.
