In 1499, the great Tuscan painter, Luca Signorelli, signed a contract to complete the fresco decoration in the San Brizio Chapel in Orvieto Cathedral. His celebration of the male nude in his paintings foreshadowed Michelangelo’s work on the Sistine Chapel ceiling only a few later.
