Changes are coming to school cafeterias.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is launching nutritional changes in schools to curb childhood obesity rates.
This time targeting high-calorie snacks sold in vending machines and al la carte items served at lunch.
Snacks with more than 200 calories and drinks with more than 60 calories will have to down-size to a smaller portion or face elimination. Chips and doughnuts will be replaced by granola bars and peanuts, and more low or non-fat milk and juice will be served.
The USDA is also pushing schools to serve more whole grains, fruits and veggies, and to stay away from processed foods.
The changes will not be enforced until the 2014-2015 school year.
They will not affect food served at school sporting events, birthday parties, or holidays.
