Tanot is a village near the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. As per the oldest Charan literature, Tanot Mata is an incarnation of the divine goddess Hinglaj Mata, and she later takes the form of Karni Mata.

It is reported that during India Pakistan 1965 war, the Pakistani army dropped thousands of bombs in the temple compound and none of them exploded saving many lives of the Indian Army.
