President Joe Biden says the latest jobs report is a sign that the economic recovery is going well.
His comments came Friday after the latest report showed U.S. employers added 559,000 jobs in May, according to the Labor Department.
It’s an improvement from April’s sluggish gain, but it fell short of economists’ forecasts.
The report also showed that companies are still struggling to find enough workers as the economy rapidly recovers from the pandemic recession.
Biden is also holding another round of infrastructure talks Friday with the lead Senate Republican negotiator, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. In his meeting earlier this week with Capito,
Biden offered tax concessions aimed at reaching a bipartisan compromise on his overall infrastructure proposal.
The two sides are at odds over how to pay for infrastructure projects, with Republicans ruling out higher corporate taxes and the White House rejecting a GOP proposal to use unspent COVID-19 relief funds.
