Méla was, once again, fastest in qualifying to claim his second pole of the weekend with a time of 1:48.623s, 0.4s quicker than Gaël Castelli and Mateo Herrero.
While Gaël Castelli moved up alongside Jean-Baptiste Méla at turn one, the Saturday race winner held onto the lead while Mateo Herrero dropped behind Mike Parisy, Nicolas Milan and Julien Neveu.
Gaël Castelli went on the offensive at the hairpin but was countered by race leader Jean-Baptiste Méla coming out of the corner. The leader went into the gravel area on lap two and Gaël Castelli didn’t waste his opportunity to move into first place.
Further back, Mike Parisy pressured Jean-Baptiste Méla before a problem with his left front wheel brought an end to his race and caused an intervention of the safety car. At the re-start, the duel between Gaël Castelli and Jean-Baptiste Méla continued, but the two made contact on lap eight. Mateo Herrero made the most of it to slot in between the two, but Jean-Baptiste Méla went back on the offensive to get by before attacking Gaël Castelli.
His last move ended in contact, which led to his rival retiring and a 30 second penalty for him.
While Jean-Baptiste Méla crossed the line first, his penalty relegated him to eighth place. Mateo Herrero inherited the win ahead of Marc Guillot et Laurent Hurgon, who started eighth and fourteenth respectively.
Vincent Beltoise finished fourth ahead of Abbie Eaton with Gentleman racers Mathieu Blaise and Marc Sevestre. Franc Rouxel (Racing Technology) and Pierre Macchi (Autosport GP) completed the provisional top ten as the results are suspended.
Already the leader after Nogaro, Mateo Herrero leaves Germany with the lead of the general classification with a one-point advantage over Marc Guillot and nine over Gaël Castelli. Mathieu Blaise leads from Marc Sevestre and Franc Rouxel in the Gentleman category.
The next round on the Alpine Elf Europa Cup calendar will see the competitors head to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (June 7-9).
