Rod and Emu are invited to a place that really doesn't look like Grotbags's fortress at all, all in the name of fun. Is there something sinister going on?
According to the BFI website, this is the fourth episode in the animated series and was originally broadcast on Tuesday, 29th January, 1991. It also seems to be the first in the series that featured an entirely original, non-recycled-from-the-live-action-show plot, unless I'm missing something.
It's worth giving a shout out at this point to the two people credited with directing: Dick Horn and Ian Sachs. Looking at IMDB, Ian spent the 80s working on the likes of Willo the Wisp, The Blunders and Bangers and Mash, before getting a co-writing credit on Rod 'n' Emu. Dick Horn, meanwhile, boasts animations such as SuperTed, The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show, The Ratties, The Beatles animated series, and even the magnificent Yellow Submarine on his CV. So now you know.
